What are the shortcomings of curved screens?

Author:admin / Publication time:2023-10-10

Disadvantages of curved screens

Expensive prices get you what you pay for.

Curved screens are more expensive than flat screen TVs, especially those with organic light-emitting diode screens. The curved screen of LED screen is only processed to reduce costs, greatly reducing the price of curved screen, but the effect is naturally much better.

The technology of organic light-emitting diodes cannot be in a very mature stage, so the cost is relatively high; However, people who use LED panels for curved surfaces on the market need a process to heat and bend the LED panels through a "hard bending" process, which is also the reason why LED panel curved TVs are relatively thick. Whether it's the cost of organic light-emitting diode curved panels or the cost of LED surface bending, the price of curved TVs is bound to be difficult to reduce, especially in recent years.

Moreover, the hesitant technology is not mature, and the production of curved panels is not high. The cost of curved panels of the same specification is about 30% higher than that of ordinary flat LED panels. Bending LED panels is not that simple. Special treatment is required for the backlight material and curved parts, making it difficult to reduce costs.

So if you see very cheap curved TVs on the market, you still need to be careful and evaluate them more.

2. The viewing distance requirement is stricter, and the screen needs to be large enough.

Curved screens require more viewing distance. If the distance is too far, the surface looks like a plane and requires closer viewing to have a sense of presence, otherwise the plane is almost the same.

The eyes can only see the entire screen at a distance to experience an immersive visual experience.

Some researchers tested different screens with curved radii ranging from 3000mm to 6000mm, and the results showed that for viewing distances of 3.5 to 4 meters, the effect of a curved radius of 4200mm would be reduced. For screens with a curved radius greater than 4200mm, the effect would be weakened, while screens with a curved radius of 4200mm would cause image distortion.
